Welcome
The
goal of GSFC Software Process Improvement is to
establish and continuously improve system and software
processes and products by providing the necessary
supporting infrastructure, such as tools, templates,
measurements support, and lessons learned. The objectives
are to:
- Improve the quality, reliability, and safety of our products through the integration of
sound system and software engineering principles and standards, so that our customers receive
highly effective and reliable products that fulfil their scientific and technological objectives
- Improve our ability to deliver products on time
and within budget

Services
The
GSFC Engineering Process Group (EPG) provides comprehensive
services to GSFC software managers and developers.
These services include:
- Processes,
procedures, guidelines, templates, checklists,
forms, tools, and other assets that describe and/or
support GSFC-approved methods for managing and
developing software. Also provided is assistance
in tailoring these assets for individual projects.

Guidance for finding the help you need. This includes
lessons-learned from GSFC software projects; identification
of GSFC organizations experienced in various aspects
of software development, and advantages/disadvantages
of selected software tools.

Training on proven best practices for software
engineering on GSFC projects. This includes instructor-led
and online courses to enhance the skills of managers,
developers, and team leads; Software Engineering
Discussions to provide awareness of key software
development topics and issues, and mentoring services.
- Support for project and organizational measurement,
including measurement plan templates; data collection,
analysis, and reporting tools; web-based guidance,
and one-on-one assistance.

Software Engineering Management Course |
| "Software Engineering Management 301" is being offered on Sept. 14-19, 2008 at Ames Research Center, CA. This intensive, 5.5 day course includes both classroom lectures and group workshops that allow the application of learned skills. Attendance is limited, so register early! |

| Three classes on the Capability Maturity Model Integration are being offered in September 2008. "Introduction to the CMMI" is recommended for those who need to implement CMMI on their projects, e.g., PDLs and team leads. "CMMI Overview" is recommended for Branch managers and software project members. The two-hour "CMMI for Executives" is targeted to Project managers, MOG members, and other senior decision makers. |
