Introduction to Lessons Learned

Lessons learned by GSFC software managers and developers may be accessed using this web page. This enables the knowledge gained from past experience to be applied to current and future projects. The intent is to avoid the repetition of past problems and facilitate the sharing of observations and best practices.

Note that GSFC lessons learned have been grouped in several ways: ROLE (management, systems engineering, testing, etc.), CATEGORY (acquisition, training, tools, etc.), life-cycle PHASE, and PROJECT. This allows lessons learned to be accessed based upon the user's area of interest.

The NASA Lessons Learned Information System (LLIS) (http://llis.nasa.gov) provides Agency-level lessons learned. (A feature-rich LLIS replacement system is planned for late 2004.) GSFC-level lessons learned are promoted to Agency-level lessons learned as appropriate (mechanism TBD).
