 Process Assets
    Library (PAL)

Welcome to the GSFC
Process Assets Library (PAL)

Introduction

GSFC's PAL is a repository of approved process assets for software engineering.  It is designed so that assets can be readily accessed and used by anyone who manages, develops, tests, or assures software products or processes.

Assets are continually being added to the PAL. Although the initial set of assets was developed by and for the Information Systems Division (ISD) – now reorganized as the Software Engineering Division (SED) -- this asset set has been augmented and currently serves all GSFC software projects.

Process Assets

There are four categories of assets within the PAL:

     1.       Project Management

     2.       Product Development

     3.       Organizational Support

     4.       Acquisition

The key, high-level processes within each category are shown as numbered boxes in the diagram below.  Each of the process boxes is linked to a page that describes the process and any other assets associated with the process, such as templates, procedures, and checklists.   Click on a process box to view the page for that process or select from the Asset Categories menu on the left.   Assets are available in MS Office or PDF formats.

 Governing Standards
   and Policies

  Governing Standards and Policies

Software development is governed by NASA, GSFC, and Division-level policy.
The assets within the PAL are consistent with software-related NASA Policy Directives (NPDs), NASA Procedural Requirements (NPRs), NASA Standards, and with GSFC directives that affect software development. Use the menu on
the left to locate key policies and standards that affect software development
at GSFC.

The diagram below shows the relationship among three Goddard Procedural Requirements (GPRs) that govern software development, maintenance, and acquisition at GSFC. These GPRs document how the requirements of NPR 7150.2A, "NASA Software Engineering Requirements," are to be implemented
at Goddard. They are currently available from the GSFC EPG in draft versions while they undergo Center review and approval.

Asset Types

The types of assets available in the PAL are shown below. As this figure shows, there is a hierarchy of asset types.    To see a listing of all assets of a particular type, click the asset type in the diagram below or select “Assets by Type” from the left-hand menu.
